OUR RESEARCH

RESEARCH THEMES

We work with a wide range of organisations to collect and transform data into real-world environmental management outcomes.

A.I. ENABLED FORECASTING AND MONITORING

Fisheries data processed by our AI technology can be used to provide fisheries organisations with key information for informed management, including the ability to estimate stock sizes and forecast harvestable population sizes for the foreseeable future

LINKING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR COASTAL MANAGEMENT

We use a range of new technology to collect, process and analyse our data. From A.I. tech and deep learning, to underwater cameras, remote operated vehicles, drones and the development of the 'Fish JCU' iphone app.

ACOUSTIC TELEMETRY

Acoustic tagging allows us to monitor fish, sharks and rays, tracking their movements and obtaining valuable data on their behaviour, habitat use and general ecology for use in management and conservation efforts.

SCIENCE FOR EFFECTIVE COASTAL RESTORATION

We focus on a holistic habitat and environmental view. Data processed through the hub is often used to monitor marine populations, conduct environmental impact assessments, assess water quality, together with other parameters to create a big-picture view of the status of our marine environments

GLOBAL-SCALE, SATELLITE-BASED MAPPING

We have the resources to map coastal ecosystems from a global-satellite scale right down to a smaller habitat perspective.

VALUE AND DYNAMICS OF COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS

Most of the data obtained through our research allows us to create a large scale idea of the value of a coastal ecosystem as a sum of all its smaller components. This is essential in management, rehabilitation and conservation efforts.
